| We provide
environment planning, education and installation assistance to the City
of Miami, Miami-Dade County and the State of Florida. Our purpose is to
preserve the existing ecological heritage within the historic boundaries
of the Coconut Grove District. We are able to do this through private and
corporate contributions of money, materials and services, as well as through
corporate grants, funding, materials and other services from Federal sources,
the State of Florida, and Dade County.
Among the services we provide, and goals we work toward are: 1.) Identifying and nominating specimen-size trees for historic designation: trees that are rare, unusual, indigenous to the area, one hundred years old or older, or those that are critical to the scenic and ecological well being of the area. 2.) Insuring that historic and environmental resources are taken into consideration at all levels of planning and development. 3.) Contributing and assisting in the development and enforcement of a realistic and enforceable body of environmental laws through existing statutes, regulation and common law principles governing the installation and maintenance of street trees, specimen trees, and heritage trees on both public and private sites. 4.) The purchasing and distribution of South Florida trees to homeowners and civic organizations at either purchase price, or, under certain conditions, at no cost. |
